The HMD Big Band is a young and dynamic group, brought to life in 2000 when some jazz lovers among the musicians decided to do something different.
The Big Band is part of the Harmonie Municipale de Dudelange.
The composition of this band could be considered as classical: it has 2-3 alto saxophones, 2 tenor saxophones, 1 baryton-saxophone, 5 trumpets, 5 trombones, piano, drumset and bass.
Both schedule and the choice of the pieces are very extended and variable, honouring the best known standards from the big jazz time of Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Stan Kenton until the modern and new age style.
After the first performance in 2001, the big band also performed concerts in neighbouring countries, e.g. in the Arsenal in Metz (F), in Lauenburg (north Germany) and so on.
