Marc Meyers

Born in November 1973, Marc MEYERS discovers his passion for music at the age of 6. His first steps in musical theory and piano lead him straight away to the instrument that clearly marks his further career - the slide trombone. After 5 years of studies at the school of music of Dudelange, in the trombone class of his father Mr. René MEYERS, Marc consecutively obtains, with distinction, a first price in musical theory as well as a first price and the "prix de capacité" in trombone.

The young musician, since 1985 active member of the Harmonie Municipale de Dudelange, continues his studies at the national music academy Metz (France) in the trombone class of Mr. Gilles SENON, among others. In his first year, in 1990, he unanimously obtains the gold medal. After finishing college, Marc MEYERS is admitted at the High Academy of music of Cologne, to the trombone class of Mr. Michel BECQUET. His activities as orchestra musician on one hand and as soloist on the other hand require him to travel through many European countries (Germany, France, Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands, Italy, Russia, and Slovakia) and also to North America.

At the Luxembourg Music Academy (CML), he obtains the "premier Prix Interrégional de trombone" unanimously and with distinction in the class of Jean-Paul Frisch; the "prix de capacité" with distinction in chamber music; a first price with distinction in jazz, and a first price with distinction in conducting an orchestra. His concludes his studies in Germany in 1997 with the final diploma in trombone combined with musical theory, music history, piano and chamber music.

From 1992 to 1997, Marc MEYERS plays the solo trombone in various orchestras, such as the wind orchestra of the Luxembourg Music Academy, the wind orchestra of the European community, the symphony orchestra of the Echternach Festival and the European youth symphony orchestra conducted by Mr. Bernard HAITINK. Marc also performed as soloist with the Belgian Guides' wind orchestra, the Luxembourg Military Band for a CD recording, the Latvian Chamber Orchestra, "Les Musiciens", the symphony orchestra of the Echternach Festival and also with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Luxembourg (OPL). Moreover, Marc won several international contests.

In 1998, Marc MEYERS, assistant conductor, is appointed conductor of the three ensembles of the Harmonie Municipale de Dudelange: The youth band, the Big Band, and the symphonic wind orchestra.

Currently, Marc is professor for trombone and chamber music at the Luxembourg Music Academy, the "Conservatoire de Musique de la ville de Luxembourg". He is also a founding member of the Luxembourg Brass Ensemble, as well as member in several other instrumental ensembles. He also performs regularly as soloist and recording artist.
